Riding, Riding, Riding! It’s just about all I do these days. Ride to work. Work, ride home. Blog about my ride to work and back. Phew! What an life. (at least I’m getting in shape)
I often wonder where Hank, Pat and John as well as other bike riders and bloggers get the energy and words for their entries. Don’t get me wrong. I get some outstanding ideas to write about. Unfortunately they occur when I’m riding and they seem to blow away with the wind. Today for instance I composed a complete blog entry that was absolutely hilarious, thought provoking and would have made you cry too. Of course not long after I thought of it I saw something that took my mind off the subject and “POOF” it was gone.
One thought did occur to me specifically directed at Hank who seems to write the most thought provoking posts (No worries Pat, your posts about dog slobber and power coating make me think too). Do you remember the posts or do you write or record yourself a memo? Just curious.
But soon, oh so soon. Like Tuesday soon. There’s and event that will make all blog entries pale in comparison. It’s the FBC Full Moon Fiasco.

Don't worry, no-one will recognize you. The duct tape protects your identity.
Beer, bicycles and frivolity. Does it get any better? Maybe, we’ll see.

Good morning, you/me here. How are we feeling? Legs ok? Still in the game? One would hope that after one day we’ll last just a bit longer than the one-minute-write.
As for that guy named Jacque he’s doing ok mostly.
Like always, it really did feel good getting on the bike. In addition, I consistently wonder why I don’t do it more. When on the bike, there’s literally a feeling of euphoria. The blood is flowing, the evil spirits can’t keep up with me and the wind noise keeps the voices in my head down.
Yet when not on the bike, those same evil spirits and voices attack me saying thinks like, “Your heiny hurts from that saddle. You don’t need to ride.” Or “Look outside dummy, it’s foggy and cold. Do you really want to ride today?”
The voices! The voices! They must be quelled! I shall mount my trusty stead and slay them.
Day 1. A 1.5 mile ride downtown to the Davenport for coffee. Get part way home then turn around for some beer and music at a tavern (10:30 isn’t too early for beer is it?). I distinctly recall last year when Stevens Street hill was easy. After some early morning beer and a winter of little riding, it was painful. I look forward to that and others being easy again.
Day 2 has a ride up the South Hill to my friends house on 33rd to play board games (and probably drink some beer) then down to 7th Ave to be Greg’s guinea pig for his new-found bicycle fitting skills (hopefully he’ll have beer) and installation of a cyclo-computer.
This whole 42-days of riding seems to have a certain theme. I’m not sure what it is but It’ll come to me sometime.
Till later,

Surprisingly enough, unlike some of my other ventures (like previous relationships or the one-minute-write) this series is continuing.
The other evening, between the usual thoughts that inhabit my mind (like beer, bicycles and “spinning the wheel”) I was thinking about a place that I could take Brightspirit for dinner. I wanted somewhere new and refreshing that offered something a bit out of ‘The Rut’.
After a thinking about it for well over 3 1/2 minutes I thought a great test of our relationship would be Greek food. I like Greek food, I really do. It’s just seems that here in the United States it can be difficult to find good stuff. In the early 80′s I was in Europe and got a taste of what I believe was authentic Greek Food. Living here, my standards had changed a bit.
Enter Santorini’s:
Let’s begin with what you encounter when you walk in. Wait, let’s begin with walking up to the joint. Santorini’s is at 112 N. Howard just South of Rite Aid Pharmacy. You’ve gotta walk by the funky fountain that kinda looks like a bidet to get in the entrance. Brightspirit liked it almost right away because it’s off the beaten path a bit and she said it reminded her of restaurants in New York City. Just inside the door you may be struck by just how small the place is. 15 tables? Maybe, but small anyway.
We were greeted almost right away by the hostess who seated us. Beginning with a glass of Greek red wine the dinner was great. Let’s start with the wine;
We decided on a Greek wine (Rather than a local. Because hey, it’s is all about getting out of the rut isn’t it?). The wine was pretty dang good. We’re far from being wine connoisseurs but to us it was full bodied, light and tasted great.
The service? Pretty dang good. It seemed a bit slow but taking in account the fact that every table was occupied and there was only only so much help I’m ok with it. Let’s get down to the real reason we were there. Food!
I had a gyros platter that came with gyros some of the best seasoned potatoes I ever had, brown rice and feta cheese. Outstanding. I like my meals hot. This came to me hot and fresh and very yummy. Brightspirit was (is) wondering where the cheese came from it was so fresh.
I’d like to briefly mention that I was very impressed with the appetizer soup. Wowza! A lemony thing that for me was just enough to awaken my appetite.
It was cozy, fun, good service and yummy.

Till later,
Jacque – Out
I’ve only got a few minutes for two posts. So I’m going to spend one of them on…The One Minute Write.
In the words of the singer Meatloaf, “I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that.” What is”that” to you?
Well, it really depends where we’re going with it. Are we headed towards paradise by the dashboard light? I may think about “that” then.
Granted, this is only the 2nd time I’ve done this but 60 seconds really isn’t all that long of a time.
Till later,
Jacque – Out
I’m guilty of having a bit of a short attention span and can be very easily distracted by other things. Some of the items that may pull my attention away include (but are not limited to) beer, bicycles, certain type of noises, women, music, comics, trees, air, twist ties, fire, bright lights, mermaids, books, blogs, computers, oranges, dirt, nudity, dogs and laughter.
So my friend Hank posted about a fun site called the One Minute Writer. To wit, “The One-Minute Writer is a fun site based on a neat idea. Take one minute out of your day to write something. C. Beth provides a topic and you respond.” (I love it when I can steal borrow other peoples blog posts to enhance mine)
We’ll give it a shot till I get sidetracked.

You’re at a dinner event, and it’s your job to give a toast. You pick up your glass and say….
Today is a very special day. We are gathered here today to celebrate….Toast. Toast is the life bread of life. I LOVE toast. I want to marry toast.
———-
Holy crap! One minute isn’t very long. I’m surprised my wife is still married to me.
Ok, that’s it for this One Minute Write. We’ll try again tomorrow.
Hey! Look a person on a bike breathing air!
Till later,
Jacque – Out
